What I Do
Investor
While stocks and bitoins can be very interesting to invest in, I've found it it is not my cup of tea(earl grey) tea. We're investing in our our company of course, but since my teens I have been interested in real estate. This is where a part of our current investments are taking place. Together with my wife and other business partners, we're currently focussing on residential real estate in the UK. with the next step in France & Italy. For diversification we are also looking into gold and silver. For my families future. I also invest in time. Lots of it. For the people surrounding me to become better humans, for our planet to become a better planet. To come closer to our maker.
Imagineer
I've always been fascinated by engineering. first aeronautical, later also built engineering, IT. The combination with designing closed the loop for me. I noticed my creative drive needed to be addressed. Growing up with Disney movies and characters, and later also with there theme parks, I was fascinated by that creative engineering. Anything you can imagine. And they had a term for there engineers: imagineer. That is how I also see my self. With a different background and learning route in comparison to my student and entrepreneur colleagues, I think out of the box, come up with new and different ideas. Let my self be inspired. The combination of Architect and engineer with imagination that can take you to the skies!
'Architect'
Even though I did an honours on architecture and I did design my house, with architect I mean something else here. I have a creative family. Uncles, Aunts, nephews & nieces, my mother, who can express that creativity through drawing. I guess some of that DNA was also passed on to me. Since a boy I was dreaming of the stars and what lied beyond .Drawing my imagination but also designing futuristic (non-existing) worlds and means of transportation. Loving the sci-fi scene. I like to draw. I'm not particularly good in drawing from an artistic perspective, but drawing helps me give clarity. To help me create that build plan. Whether for a design of something materialistic, or a process, an organization. See the natural flow and creating oversight. As part of my time studying built engineering I did my honours on architecture. Some of my teachers and co-students were to abstract/to vague for me; I probably didn't understand them or there creative expression, but it helped me to visualize and structure what is my head to a plan to build.
Entrepreneur
My father was an entrepreneur and as a kid looked up too that 'magical job'. So I always 'wanted' to be an entrepreneur. Starting during college, dropping my jobs, I started my own little company in IT. First hardware, assembling PC's for my fellow students and troubleshooting, later extending to network & system admin. In my final year studying built Engineering at my University, University of Applied Science in The Hague, they were my biggest client; installing hardware (pc's, routers, servers) and setting up networks. After that I've been involved in several startups and scale-ups as owner or contributor. I just love to build.
Builder
As a boy Lego, Mechano, wood, metal have always been part of my 'tools' to express my creativity and to realise the designs I made. When I grew older, the scale just become larger. I still love using physical materials to see something rise up from the ground in a short period. With my dreams as a boy of being an astronaut, protecting the planet from danger, later downgrading that to become a pilot, with my interest for aerospace and aviation I started studying aeronautical engineering. But the maths was to challenging for me. So when I needed to make the switch quickly, I switched to built engineering. Cause I just love to build. But I have also become a builder of people, of teams, of departments, of companies. Working on people focussing on there talent, there strengths, there qualities and see them grow. Designing departments fit to the organization and industry, creating plans together with the team how to get there and build that department. I still love to do both. In my 'free' time working on converting a motorcycle or building a garden office, or a chair, and in my profession building people, departments. And as with anything, a good build takes time. That is why, as an interim, I stick to companies much longer than my interim colleagues. Because when my clients see what I'm doing and contribute, they see efficiency going up, people staying and being more happy, processes going smoother and customers satisfied. And the let me design and build that team, discipline. And I love it. Sometimes that means you have to break down something first, or redo what did not go well. All part of the job.
Leader
I've always felt the need to improve; to become a better (hu)man. But also to get the best out of people, help them achieve there goals & dreams; with mutual benefit for them and who I represent (myself or a company). since young I observed great leaders, and in daily live took more and more initiates when people around me didn't. Taking responsibility. I learned through ups and downs to become a better leader. Not a manager. I do not 'manage'. I lead by creating an inclusive environment, focusing on individual talents and continuous improvement, developing and looking after my companies/department/teams wellbeing. Listening, coaching and advising them, sharing information, expertise and experience. Showing concern. I do not micromanage. I set goals based on Vision, Mission and clear Strategy. Connect and collaborate with the entire organization. Be clear and take decisions. Empower.
